A penile implant is a prosthesis that helps men achieve an erection to improve sexual function and health. Dr. Singh understands that ED and penile implants are sensitive topics and has made it an important part of his practice, which is why his office is recognized as a Center of Excellence and Education for penile implant surgery.
Dr. Singh determines if you’re a good candidate for a penile implant during your consultation. Dr. Singh specializes in men’s health and ED and conducts comprehensive evaluations to identify the root cause of your impotence and focuses his treatment on addressing the cause. He may then recommend other treatments, such as lifestyle modifications, oral medication, and/or injections.
Dr. Singh may consider you a good candidate for a penile implant if:
ED is a common problem for men, and no single treatment works for everyone. No matter where you are in the course of your ED treatment, Dr. Singh can help.
There are two primary types of penile implants. The types include:
Inflatable penile implants are the most common type. The implant includes a reservoir filled with fluid, two inflatable cylinders, and a release valve.
To get an erection, you pump the fluid from the reservoir placed under your skin in your abdomen into the cylinders, which are located in the shaft of your penis. When you’re done, you release the valve found behind your scrotum and the fluid returns to the reservoir.
A semi-rigid rod is a penile implant that keeps your penis firm at all times.
Dr. Singh reviews your penile implant options with you during your consultation and helps you determine the best device for you.
Dr. Singh reviews the specifics of your penile implant surgery prior to the procedure, so you know how to prepare, what to expect during the procedure, and the length of your recovery. Your penile implant surgery is an outpatient procedure performed under anesthesia to minimize discomfort and usually takes an hour or less.
Recovery time may vary, but Dr. Singh may recommend you refrain from strenuous activity, including sexual intercourse, for four to six weeks after the placement of your prosthesis.
